Margarita is a far less expensive place to visit than just about any other island in the Caribbean. Why are things so inexpensive here? First, it is a duty free island. Wages here are much less than in most prime vacation areas, and gasoline is highly subsidized by the government, making transportation costs very inexpensive. We know it is hard to believe, but gas here costs about 8 cents a gallon!
